Let's Talk! | Journal Prompts for New Beginnings

Updated: Feb 22, 2022

Every ending leads to a new beginning. Last week, I shared journal prompts for endings. Now that the New Year is officially here, I want to share with you- 10 journal prompts for new beginnings. Just as we use journaling to process endings, we can use journaling to set intentions for new beginnings, and check-in with ourselves about how the change may be making us feel.

You can use these prompts to explore your thoughts & feelings about a new beginning or change. You can also take these prompts & use them as conversation starters. Once again, these prompts were made with the new year in mind, but you can take the words in parentheses out to swap in your own new beginning.

Journal Prompts for New Beginnings

  1. How are you feeling about the (new year) starting?

  2. What are you looking forward to in the new year?

  3. Is there anything you are worried about for this (new year)?

  4. What's helped you in the past when you had to start something for the first time?

  5. What goals would you like to work on for (the new year)?

  6. Are you hoping anything will be different this (new year)?

  7. What do you about new beginnings?

  8. What do you find scary about new beginnings?

  9. What's a quote or tagline you'd like to use for inspiration (this new year)? What made you choose it?

  10. Write or draw a picture about how you would like your (new year) to be.
