It can be hard to know when to step in.
Teens need room to become themselves, but independence doesn’t mean handling everything alone. You may be wondering when to give them space, when to check in, and when outside support could help.
How Teen Therapy Can Help
Teen therapy can help adolescents build insight, strengthen coping skills, and navigate challenges with more confidence and support.
What Teen Therapy May Look Like
Teens do not need to come in knowing what to say or how to explain what feels wrong. We can start with what they are noticing, what has been happening lately, or even what they wish adults understood.
Sessions may look different from week to week. We might unpack something that happened, notice a pattern, work through a difficult emotion or relationship, or find a practical way to handle something happening at school or at home. I draw from evidence-based approaches, including CBT, while adapting the work to the teen in front of me.
Teens need enough privacy to build trust in therapy, while parents still need to understand how they can help. I work to balance both, keeping parents meaningfully involved while giving teens room to make therapy their own.
When helpful, I also work with parents on how to stay connected and supportive without every hard moment becoming another question, reminder, or problem to solve.
