SPACE Treatment for Families in Westchester, NY
SPACE Treatment
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions
SPACE is a parent-based treatment for childhood and teen anxiety that helps parents respond in ways that support resilience, confidence, and change over time. Unlike my other parent work, SPACE can be done without your child or teen also being in therapy with me.
You may be here because
Your child’s anxiety may be showing up in ways that have become hard to manage. Maybe they need constant reassurance, avoid things that feel uncomfortable, struggle with separation, or react strongly when something feels scary. You may be doing more and more to help, while also wondering whether those patterns are making it harder for things to change.
How SPACE Can Help
SPACE may be helpful when anxiety is interfering with daily life in ways that feel hard to shift.
-
frequent reassurance-seeking
-
separation anxiety
-
school avoidance or distress
-
social anxiety
-
specific fears or phobias
-
anxiety that has started to shape family routines
How SPACE Treatment Works
In SPACE treatment, the focus is on helping parents make small, meaningful changes in how they respond to their child’s anxiety. Rather than asking a child to manage anxiety on their own first, SPACE helps parents shift patterns that may be unintentionally keeping anxiety in place. Over time, those changes can help children build more confidence, flexibility, and resilience.
What Makes SPACE Different
SPACE is different from many other approaches because the work is done with parents. Rather than focusing only on helping a child talk about anxiety, SPACE helps parents make changes that reduce accommodation and support a child’s growing independence.
How SPACE Fits Into My Practice
SPACE is the one parent-based service I offer without a child or teen also being in individual therapy with me. Parents can participate in SPACE on its own when that approach feels like the best fit for their family.
